Mixology challenge

Every month beginning on the 24th, there is a new Mixology kit at Go Digital Scrapbooking.  Vicki from Dana's Footprint Digital Designs hosts the Mixology challenge every month, with a fabulous matching prize.

Spring with Alexis Design Studio

Alexis Design Studio has added two fabulous kits to her store at Scrapbook Graphics.  First up:

BLOSSOMS OF LIFE

As always this kit is full of beautiful flowers and foliage, and shabby chic papers to "die for!"  There are 47 unique elements, and 24 papers (12 patterns, 12 solids).  

I combined BLOSSOMS OF LIFE with a freebie template from Scrapping with Liz to create my layout

That is one photo of the azaleas in bloom at Zilker Botanical Gardens in Austin, Texas.  I just spread it over all the photo blocks in the template!  The pink of the flowers is complimented well by the green background and the elements I picked (I think!)

The second "Spring" kit to arrive this week in Alexis Design Studio store at Scrapbook Graphics is called

IN BLOOM

This one has a different but equally beautiful color palette!  This kit has 43 unique elements (including some delicious flowers and foliage!), 29 papers (12 patterns, 12 solids, and some bonus linen papers!) and a full burlap alpha.

I couldn't resist showing off some more of the flowers at Zilker Botanical Gardens in Austin with this Spring kit.

The flowers and foliage in the kit are a great compliment to the flowers in my photos, and I love the watercolor effect on the patterned and solid papers!

Layout #1 - poki and her sister, Christmas 1957 in special outfits made by Mom!

Although we were not the same age, we often dressed alike for special occasions - not sure what color these suits were,  Check out those hats!  Those were the days when ladies always wore hats to church.  That door was the entry into Grandpa's office at his church in Floresville, Texas.  He served as Pastor there from 1952 - 1960, and we were always there for Christmas and Easter!  (and many other times as well!)

Layout #2 features poki, her sister, and a cousin in matching outfits (Mom used this pattern twice - in orange one time, and turquoise another)  Mom also spent the summer of 1958 creating all of the dresses for her sister's wedding on August 30. (including the wedding dress and veil)  The bridesmaids, flower girls and Jr Bridesmaid (that was me!) were different pastel shades!

The bluebonnet and Indian paintbrush photo is from a previous year (2009).  We normally see the first bluebonnets about March 10 each year ... but 2016 is an unusual year.  It's been quite warm, and we all ... people, trees, and flowers ... think Spring is HERE!  I saw the first bluebonnets on the side of IH 35 in Austin, TX on Saturday!  It's about 3 weeks early!  Since we've only had one freezing night in February (on the 4th) and days as high as 80+, I'm HOPING that we can trust that Winter is over!  I am seriously not "in like" with winter, so having a short one is no problem for me!

HEART'S DELIGHT

Here is my layout of photos I took at the Tyler Rose Garden in September 2008, in the middle of a rain storm following Hurricane Gustav which had come ashore in New Orleans are two days earlier, and was passing over Tyler when we drove through town.  My sister and I walked through part of the garden anyway, with umbrella in one hand and camera in the other!  Dedicated photographers!

Paper and elements are plentiful, as well as clusters, embossed papers, smatters, stackers and two full alphas.  And the delicate color palette suits me just perfectly!

Phyllis age 3!  (That's me! - and by the way, the layout says 1958, but it's really 1953 - not sure why I shaved 5 years off my current age!  LOL!)
